4th of July Parade
July 4, 2016 @ 10:00 am
The annual Fourth of July Parade, sponsored by the Town of Groton, is scheduled for Friday, July 4, 2014 at 10 a.m. This year’s theme is “American Heroes” and the Parade Committee welcomes merchants, businesses of all kinds, non-profit community organizations, marching groups, and bands. This year, in celebration of Connecticut’s Submarine Century, the parade will feature a Grand Marshal who is a submarine veteran from World War II and the 20 replica submarines that have been decorated for the CT Sub Trail will make their public debut! We’ll also have many other submarine-related units in the parade including the Commanding Officer of the Subase, the Subase Fire Department, the Silver Dolphins precision drill team, Sub School sailors carrying the lost boat flags for each submarine lost at sea, a Subase Security Boat, US Sub Vets, and more.
Participants should register on-line at www.grotonrec.com/july4th.asp no later than Friday, June 10, 2016. Don’t forget to include a short biography for your marching unit to be used by the announcer on the viewing stand. The parade travels along Route 1 from Poquonnock Plains Park to the Groton Shopping Center at Drozdyk Drive. The reviewing stand is at the Chelsea Groton Bank.
