SUBVETS Groton Memorial Day and USS Scorpion Memorial Service

May 30, 2016 @ 11:00 am

SUBVETS Groton will join our nation in remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country by hosting a memorial service for all those submariners lost at sea, especially the USS Scorpion SS589, which was lost on May 22, 1968. This annual event, which takes place on the grounds of the US SUBVETS WWII National Memorial East, is a moving remembrance of those submarines and submariners lost at sea. The event will feature a keynote speaker and a tolling of the boats. During the Tolling the Boats, also known as the Two Bell Ceremony, each individual submarine is recognized and their fallen crewmen are honored by the dipping of the Boat’s Flag and two rings of a Ship’s Bell.

In the event of inclement weather, this event will be held at the City of Groton Municipal Building, 295 Meridian St.  Please visit the Connecticut’sSubmarineCentury Facebook page for updates.
